Mt Albert BBQ Noodle House on New North Road offers a distinctly local dining experience geared towards those craving familiar Chinese comfort food in a casual, straightforward setting. This restaurant blends the atmosphere of a neighbourhood barbecue joint with the relaxed pace of a tea house, making it a reliable spot for anyone looking to enjoy hearty, no-fuss meals at any time of day.

The interior features sturdy wooden furniture and a layout that balances between cozy and practical — plenty of tables spaced just enough to keep things comfortable without feeling cramped. Although it can get busy during peak times, especially evenings, the space opens up late into the night, ideal for night owls or those seeking late dinners beyond the usual dining hours.

Mt Albert BBQ Noodle House’s menu is firmly rooted in traditional Chinese dishes, with a focus on BBQ pork, roast meats, and noodle soups. Those in the know come here for classics like beef brisket noodle soup, combination fried noodles, and salt and pepper squid—all generous portions that often mean leftovers to take home. Their range of stir-fried and deep-fried options adds variety, from spicy pork ribs to crispy chicken nuggets. A standout among drinks is the wide selection of milk teas and fruit juices, including local favourites like taro bubble tea and mango juice, lending a refreshing counterpart to the savoury plates.

The service here complements the food style: friendly and patient staff who make ordering straightforward, whether you choose to queue at the ordering panel out front or sit down and have the waiters take your order. The place is welcoming to groups, families, and couples alike, and it’s not unusual to spot children enjoying the casual vibe while parents catch up over ample meals.

Parking can be a bit tricky due to the nearby traffic lights and the necessity for parallel parking, but the restaurant’s accessibility and the availability of Uber rides make it easy to reach. For anyone wanting a quick, affordable meal with familiar flavours and a no-frills setting, Mt Albert BBQ Noodle House fits the bill perfectly. It’s especially convenient for late dinners, casual catch-ups, or after-work meals when the city hum quiets down but the appetite remains.

It has been a couple of years since I have eaten here, it was always pretty good for quick cheap Chinese, open late, great people watching, and felt I needed a visit. It was a Monday night after 9pm, they are open til 1am, so wasn’t too packed. First thing I noticed was there wasn’t as many tables as they used to have in there’s, they used to be packed in, but seemed more space. Free Chinese tea, maybe free soup?? Same menu, prices still pretty good. So we got braised Hapuka, tofu and vege dish on rice, crispy roast pork on rice, and combination bbq thick noodles for 3 of us, and a big bottle of coke. Food arrived at our table so quick, piping hot, and dishes brought out all together! Yum, just as I remember. Plastic cups and plates budget as, but hey it is what it is, and I think you would be hard pressed to find similar prices for amount of food anywhere. I’m pretty sure the dishes cheaper than takeaway prices. Took 2 takeaway containers home and we were all stuffed. Log cabin interior is a biit old, but the main thing cheap quick nice fresh food is what matters

This place is an absolute local institution - have been coming here with my dad since I was a child. And now with my partner and many friends. They have our favourite roast duck in Auckland, love the Singapore vermicelli and the sweet and sour pork (also props to their salt and pepper squid not pictured). This place is awesome.

Customer service is excellent. They are patient, polite, and welcome. They listen and explain their food to us well. Food price is cheap and it is served with huge portion. I have never finished all of food by myself. I always ask for containers to take it home. Parking is on the street and it's a bit difficult as you have to do parallel and it is near traffic lights.

Brilliant roast chicken. 8/10 for many dishes I tried. 10 being world class Chinese. So, that’s impressive. Service was very slow but generous and attentive when you ask. Low cost. Definitely recommend.
